This is a small shrine in which the faithful have deposited religious items and many seashells, owing to its beautiful seaside location. There is access to a small beach nearby and nice paved trails to walk on through pretty fields and woods. Access is by foot from a parking lot on Hylan Blvd.
This is part of the Mt Loretto, once the largest orphanage complex in the city, and the girls' orphanage and a hospital once stood on this site. Those buildings burned down and were demolished years ago. The shrine is the only visible remnant of the orphanage era near the beach - though a church and other buildings remain on the west side of Hylan.
