I was out-patient here for a good month and honestly my experience was fine. The staff was really nice to me and I formed great bonds with them. On my last day, they gave me lincoln logs that I used to play around with because I always talked about how I wanted them. The food is alright, the kids are alright. I didn't really form any bond with anyone expect the staff I hung out with. I don't know what life is like inpaitent but I have heard some pretty bad things from friends when i went to a BOCES.

I am a parent of a 14 year old child who was just recently discharged. He was there for 100 days after being transferred from Brunswick. (I do NOT have good things to say about that place) I have to be honest, when researching this facility and seeing all these negative reviews, I was terrified that my son was going to be admitted here. I was honestly expecting the worst.

Well I am happy to say that personally WE had nothing but a positive experience here. From the very beginning, there was full communication between myself and the treatment team for my son. They were very thorough in their diagnosis of him, and while he is now on quite a few medications, I know that it's not forever, and that they are necessary for him to succeed at this point in his life. They continually did blood work and made adjustments as necessary.

His therapist Megan was amazing. My son always had problems opening up to therapists in the past, but she was able to get thru to him, and they formed an amazing relationship, and I know she truly helped him. Who would think that you would get choked up saying goodbye to everyone on discharge day? He told me the staff on his unit was great, he had a few favorites, and that he would even come back to visit them to say hello. His favorite nurse on the unit told me it was amazing to watch him grow and change over the course of the 3 months he was there and that he made so much progress.

The staff at the front desk was always very friendly, there are motivational posters throughout the entire building, and clean visiting areas. My son told me it definitely was NOT what he had first expected, and that while of course there are patients that are difficult and have their own breakdowns, everything was handled professionally. Anytime there was an issue with my son in the beginning when he would have melt downs, they would always call me to inform me as to what happened and let me know he was ok.

I was never ONCE kept from my child, I could visit him whenever I wanted. I had weekly meetings with his therapist where we were able to work on a lot of things and I have to say in the week since he's been home I definitely see a huge change in him and I'm optimistic that it will continue. Our relationship has improved greatly, and I honestly could not thank Megan enough for giving me my son back. I know it's not all her, and he put ALOT of work into it, but she was the one who finally cracked him, and called him out on his bull, and he sees now what he was doing wrong.

Parents, I cannot speak to anyone's experience but our own, but please do not let the reviews of former patients scare you away. Being away from your family for an extended period of time is never easy, especially when you are an adolescent and you have mental health issues. But I can assure you that Sagamore has the tools and resources to help your child, but they have to be willing to put in the work as well.
