(December 2, 2018, 11:59 am)Hopefully they continue to knock down houses and return land back to the Nature Preserve. It's a beautiful important part of the ecology in Long Island and Northport Fort Salonga. It's a shame that new homes are being built around the area destroying the water table and the ecology natural water flow etc etc. Thank you for preserving this area please keep it clean take out what you take in and leave no Trace but footprints.

Originally called Crab Meadow Park East Watershed, the Makamah Nature Preserve was acquired by Suffolk County in 1973. It contains dry and wet woodlands, as well as marsh. It has been reported that 94 species of birds have been recorded in and around the property and that the park is prime habitat for owls and woodpeckers.
