(October 29, 2016, 6:06 pm)The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society has been doing great work for decades, with the lighthouse and with its associated history and artifacts. The lens building and display is first-rate, with a huge 19th-century first-order Fresnel lens on display amid interpretive materials. Of course, it is not just any lens - this lens used to reside in the lantern room of the lighthouse right outside the window. Even if the lighthouse wasn't there, the lens display alone would be worth the visit.

(September 10, 2016, 12:47 pm)The lighthouse museum and gift shop at Robert Moses Beach on Fire Island. It is the only part of Fire Island you can drive to.... the museum is definitely worth a visit.

(September 2, 2016, 4:25 pm)Very nicely kept and historical buildings. Knowledgeable staff and interesting displays. I highly recommend going into the lens building to see the old lens of the previous lighthouse. They leave a small bulb on for you to observe.

Special tours can be arranged for your group, including sunset tours. Call us at 631-661-4876 to discuss your needs, reservations and the availability of any tour you would like. A minimum fee of $200 is needed to arrange a tour of up to ten individuals, plus $20 for each additional person.
Light Keepers behind the Scenes Tour - Fire Island News
Follow one of our present day Light Keepers on his rounds. This bottom to top tour takes you from the auxiliary generator to the Beacon at the top of the tower. Visit the Lens Building and Boat House, too. This tour takes 21/2 hours. $15 for FILPS members/$20 for non members. Reservations required. Call 631-661-4876 for information and to sign up.
Fire Island Light's Fresnel Lens Building opens July 23 ...
There is no charge to enter the Fresnel Lens Building, but an interpretive fee is collected for lighthouse tower tours. The Fire Island Lighthouse is open daily, year-round. For more information, call the Fire Island Lighthouse at 631-661-4876.
