BC's New Paltz Climbing Gym

What a great gym! I’m used to climbing in big NYC gyms where the bouldering sections are bigger than this entire gym, and I thought BC would be too small. It’s not, it’s perfect. The problems are very very well set, fun, and incredibly varied. There are enough new problems each week that you’ll always have something to work on. The staff is super nice and helpful. The prices are reasonable. Not having grades is a little weird in the beginning, but I love it. Makes you try problems you’d otherwise never try (because you read the grade and think they’re too hard or too easy). All around, highly recommended.

Small place but very reasonable price and everyone is very friendly. Has everything you could need for your local climbing gym.

On first visit I was stoked, greeted by a very friendly staff member, fun varied sets, really good music selection, all around a great community space.

Cool place to go, definitely something different to try. I actually took a private class and had a great time as a beginner.

Sometimes it's pretty busy and it feels a little crowded in a small space though. I only hung around maybe 15 minutes the one night because half the gym felt unavailable with all of the people in it.

They also switch up the routes every so often too and that's nice. But last time I went it didn't seem like there were any beginner friendly routes and it was frustrating to feel like I couldn't even get started on the wall in front of well seasoned climbers.

Overall I like indoor rock climbing though and this place is a good starting point. It's just as challenging mentally as it is physically.

Highly recommend a private lesson if you're a first time climber too!
