Ava's Cupcakes, Winston-Salem

Delicious Delightful! Oh my goodness. Truly amazing, we tried more than 1 & loved them all! The German Chocolate was my favorite. Very nice staff & appears very clean. A must visit!

Stopped by Ava's in Winston-Salem.. My first time in. I loved the little cupcakes I tried in the past and thought I'd pick up some of the full size for my husband's birthday... The Gentleman behind the counter was ok..No excitement.. No suggestions.. Just ok...I ended up with 5 different kinds! .. I enjoyed bringing my custom picked cupcakes home and surprising my husband.. I found the cupcakes to be ok.. I felt that the cupcakes weren't as fresh as the little sampler cupcakes I had in the past.. But maybe it was the time of day (Around 4:30 pm). I'll give it a try again..Anyway my honey enjoyed his cupcake surprise!

I read the great reviews and saw the Google photos that captured the large variety. I decided to give this bakery a try. The young lady who was working there this morning was very nice and welcoming. She answered all my questions, and patiently waited for me to make my selections. I ended up with 4 cupcakes, a cheesecake, and a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie. The cookie is real good. It's thick and soft enough. Plenty if chocolate chips in each bite. I only sampled a little and will eat the rest tomorrow. The cheesecake was interesting. It fell apart easily, and the icing broke off into large pieces. It was not soft like the icing on the cupcake. It was good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. I just ate the banana guava cupcake and pumpkin cannoli and the cupcakes seem to break apart too easily.. maybe it has too much filling and it's on the drier side,, nit too dry but a little drier than most gourmet cupcakes I had. The center was filled with mashed banana, and it was good. I have 2 more to go... toasted coconut and creme brulee... just ate them both last night and this morning. They are my favorite of all. I think letting the cupcakes sit for a day (refrigerated overnight) might have kept the cake together, and they didn't fall apart, unlike the first two I ate after purchase.

I was very excited to try this place. Lots of great reviews, and it was a very cute place. Very helpful staff and a good selection. My daughter got the Ava’s chocolate cupcake, and I got vanilla cake with chocolate icing. The vanilla cake itself was very good, flavorful and moist. I did not like the chocolate icing. It almost had a fake flavor? Maybe it was a bad batch, but I ate the cake and couldn’t finish the icing. My daughter had no such trouble and ate her whole cupcake! I would go back for my daughter, but unfortunately not for myself.
