I'm a patient of Dr. Cohen but have only been seen by his PA Colleen Mahar. There aren't sufficient words to describe how wonderful she is. Without doubt she is incredibly thorough. As a workers' compensation attorney, I am a very involved patient and know a dangerous amount about anatomy, treatment modalities, and medications. Colleen is patient and takes all the time necessary to address my many, detailed questions. I've had varying degrees of back pain and radiating nerve pain for years and have been reluctant to seek care because past efforts to do so were met with dismissive and some condescending responses from other orthopedists/practices. Reaching out to Spine & Scoliosis Specialists was one of the smartest decisions I've made with respect to my own medical care. I now know exactly what is wrong and the path necessary to address the symptoms. You can also rest assured though Dr. Cohen and Dr. Torrealba are highly regarded surgeons, the practitioners at Spine and Scoliosis do not have the cut first and ask questions later mentality of most surgical practices. In fact, Colleen, was very straightforward about it. She told me at my first visit that they could perform surgery to address one of my conditions but she wouldn't recommend it at my age and would recommend we try other options and delay surgery as long as we can. For those unfamiliar with the most common "mode of operation" for surgical offices (pardon the pun), surgery is pushed, generally it generates more fees than other options. So, from the start, I felt that Colleen was truly concerned about what was best for me. It's actually a great business model because I will never go anywhere else for my back and I recommend them to anyone with spine issues.

I have severe scoliosis, but I have been able to avoid surgery through injections by Dr Saullo. Very impressed by his needlework.

I wasn't and never have been seen in the HP office. I only see those in Greensboro. I LOVE them! Dr. Colleen Mahar and Dr. Max Cohen. They are right to the point. The shots give me enough relief I can move good for 2-3 months before needing another. Voltaren gel is awesome. Numbs the area so you can tolerate life more along with the shot.
