  Coach Sean Bates is a scam! He hooked us to buy more private lesson packages of 12 in 2019 X'mas taking the cash in advance. Then without any notice, he closed the club and blocked our calls or messages in mid-2020, whether it was mine or my teenage son's. There was a balance of 5 lessons. We were not notified of the closedown date or the reason. I learned from his friend his phone number 980-263-1669 was still in use when we tried hard to contact him in 2021.
  We gave him X'mas presents every year and thought there was friendship and trust there. Much disappointed to this person's integrity. Sean Bates is a bad example to teenagers and kids. I suggest everyone should watch out for this person if he ever returns to fencing. Or he already did so somewhere different from the Mountain Island Fitness Center.

  Coach Sean truly is one of the premier fencing coaches in the nation. I have had the privilege of working with him for the past four years, and the enthusiasm and determination he brings to each of his kids is contagious. He currently has two fencers who have gone to the World Fencing Championships, and has multiple fencers on the national points list.

  My kids and I have been fencing here for years now. Great group and a good mix of fencers. Kids, adults, beginner, advanced. Great place!!!
