(January 25, 2019, 3:20 pm)A collection of tortoise and snakes in the center. There is a bird center a little bit away. Interesting place for kids. In the summers , one can pack lunch and have it in the picnic tables all around. My son loves to go to this animal center.

(January 8, 2019, 10:42 pm)This is a wonderful nature preserve with beautiful long and well maintained hiking trails. I typically take my dogs for a hike and let them cool off in the crisp cool water of mountain island lake. The cove trail seems to be the least travelled. If you are looking for a wonderful spot to catch the sunset with the backdrop over the lake, I recommend taking Buzzard rock trail to the overlook.

(November 11, 2018, 8:16 am)Went here to go kayaking. They have a nice put in area. Parking could be a bit better. The cove where you put in is quiet and peaceful for paddling. Fising was good too. The Raptor center is a nice place to take your children to for education and fun.

In addition to guided tours of the plantation home, eleven outbuildings give visitors a glimpse of life in North Carolina from 1800 to 1865 during self-guided grounds tours.
