The Waxhaw Police Department is made up of really great people. One of the guys, Alex, lives just a couple house down from me. Another, Vic, lives behind me. Needless to say, I feel very safe where I live-but it's more than that. For example, when Alex got home from a night shift, he heard we needed help lifting a heavy piece of furniture upstairs at my neighbor's house, he did not hesitate in hustling over to help out and we couldn't have done it without him. They all go way beyond their expected role of protecting us from criminals and do things like this. Vic can be found on his off time helping out with directing traffic to ensure Waxhaw's frequent festivals run as safely as possible. He also hands out little police badge stickers to the little ones. Alex gave my son a reflector bracelet and a police tattoo that my boy kept from being washed off for a month! I don't know all the names of these protectors but there is a young, tall policeman that helped one of my neighbors when driving by their place. They drive by a lot and their presence makes us all feel safe. They are never to busy to wave or wave back to us. I don't know if there are any statistics anywhere but I would wager Waxhaw is the safest community in the Charlotte metro area. I wish there was some way we could repay them for everything they do for Waxhaw. Next time you see one of them, wave and say hello-I guarantee they will wave back!

The Waxhaw Police Department has received the SHARP (Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program) recognition award from OSHA. Ms. Cherie Berry, Commissioner of Labor for NC will be at the town meeting, March 12, 2013 to give the award to the Police Department.
