“Their value lies in usually having everything you need locally (not, we can have it tomorrow) and friendly, helpful counter service. Refrigeration is a sideline for me. Occasionally intersecting with my work as an environmental test engineer and sometimes a bit of home work. Some of the local suppliers won't bother to talk to you, much less sell, unless you are at their counter every week; master's license not withstanding. Skilled trades counter services generally don't operate at internet speeds. There are live people, taking the time to help live customers solve problems, be it electrical, HVAC, wholesale parts, etc. Don't expect to cut to front of the line by calling on the phone.”
