We have been going to this school for 8 or so years. My three kids have had such a great experience here over the years! There is such a family / community environment - you can truly tell that they are committed to each student rather than just churning out black belts. When my middle child wanted to "take a break" from karate, there were no problems with contracts, etc and they were happy to have him back when he was ready!

My 4 year old son absolutely adores his karate class, and I have greatly enjoyed this experience. The level of patience in working with the kids, especially the young ones who are still learning how to interact in the setting, is stellar. I also love the fact that there is a balance between fun and games, along with taking karate seriously as an art and sport. UMAA has a program that inspires discipline, respect, character development, an understanding of martial arts, and strengthens all areas of development in children, and I have seen positive effects in my son since beginning his journey in martial arts.

The instructors and staff here are great. Our whole family is involved and they work with us at our own pace to get the most out of our experience. We also sent our boys to summer camp here and it was top notch. They kept them busy with activities all day including three hours of karate each day. They were able to earn their initial belts during camp so they actually outrank the adults in the house.

I went in yesterday and came back today for my first judo lesson. I have some very limited previous experience, and I was learning off the bat. It's a great environment to learn judo in as far as I can tell. I can't speak on behalf of the karate program, but in response to the previous post about their instructors not being on par, that wasn't my experience.

I am not sure what they are talking about. I remember when I cancelled my membership early. I read my contract before I did it; so I knew what to expect. It's no big deal....Karate International will let anyone out of their membership early, and yea, I expect to have to pay to cancel early. Its a normal business practice with legitimate full time businesses. As far as the teachers not being "up to par" and "part time" I think he is confusing this school with something else. The OWNER is teaching classes along side numerous black belt instructors. The school is open Monday - Thursday 9:30am - 8:30pm and Saturday 9:00am - 2:00pm....nothing "part time" about that. The teachers are ALL professional and courteous. This person just sounds mad because they probably tried to NOT be held responsible for their end of the agreement...or maybe its just something else entirely. What a load of nonsense
