What a gem of a restaurant to have in Toledo. My husband and I first experienced Indian cuisine in Columbus and have been looking for a place to satisfy our cravings and Star of India is it, if not better! The service was wonderful - all of the staff during our visit were so friendly and so helpful. The food portions were enough for 2-3 meals and everything was delicious. We are so uncomfortably full but it was so, so worth it.
The whole experience was homely me and the waitress guy chopped it up after I told him that the mango chicken I ordered was an explosion of flavor on my taste buds. I felt very welcomed and comfortable on top of the fact the food was of the chain.
First time trying this, even though I'd passed it many times during work. So glad I stopped in! The staff was super friendly and turned out to be one of the cooks. There are a lot of options on this menu, so I asked for a recommendation. He was very knowledgeable and inquired about my preferences. Ultimately I decided on his suggestion, the Lamb Saag. I'm always hesitant, when it comes to lamb, because it's not my favorite and I'm not a fan of that "gamey" flavor. Boy was I surprised! As soon as he set it down on the table I thought, "this smells amazing!". Very aromatic in a great way. I was not disappointed. Very flavorful, tender, and perfectly seasoned with no gamey taste at all. The garlic naan was so tender too. The portions were generous and I had enough left for supper. Overall, I'm really impressed at the service, food, and dining experience. Will definitely be back!
I ate at Star of India last night for the first time, and it was delicious! So much flavor in all of the food. The service was fast and friendly! The atmosphere was ok, but felt a bit outdated. I would characterize the food as amazing except for the vegetable pakora. It seemed to be a bit of a letdown for me. They are extremely accommodating for vegans like myself so that was awesome! I’ll definitely go back!
Best Indian restaurant in Toledo the food portions are large and will still be hot when you are boxing it up.
We got the appetizer platter elephant ear and chicken makhni. The Naan bread was also the best I have ever had in my life. Everything was full of flavor and spice can't wait to go back.
