“Doctor Adi Gerblich met my mother, Madeline E. Bowden, on Christmas night, December 25, 1995, when she was admitted to Hillcrest Hospital via EMS after sudfering her 3rd heart attack. Mom was visiting us in Beachwood, Ohio to celebrate KWANZAA. It had become part od our tradition, at her insistance, that she would cook an entire holiday meal on "25" celebrate KWANZAA for 7 days. We came to expect Dr.Gerblich's humble, empathetic demeaner and his extremely competent care doe the 7+ years that he treated her, but that night, when we were met with the need for quintuple bypass surgery, he far surpassed our expectations! The surgery was expected to last around 4 hours, but Mom's lungs, so damaged from cheap soft coal, woodburning stoves, polution from steel mills, and cigarettes, required emergency pulmonary reduction surgery - 14 hours! Her dx stage 4 COPD; prognosis poor (6months) IF she could even be sucessfully taken off of the respirator. With Dr. Gerblich's wise, humble care (he actually held team meetings that included the family and he listened! Really listened and took the advise of the nurses, family, et al. team members. Instead of 6 miserable months, thanks to Dr. Gerblich + family love and care, Mom had seven (7) good years to share with her family; her grandchildren & great-grandchildren got the opportunity to develop the closeness that sharing a home with loved ones can bring. We are forever grateful for Dr. Adi Gerblich!”
