“At the end of 2019 I was diagnosed with liver cancer and treated successfully at Providence Glisan. After multiple surgeries I was evicted for late rent payments in March 2020. Homeless for 1st time in life at age 65, I sought shelter at a local hotel. Walking one morning i passed the Balthazar Ortiz Community Center on Killingsworth, was drawn to enter the center. Asked reception lady about available services and the Director overheard my inquiry, joined discussion and said we can help. The next day the Center provided 2 weeks of shelter vouchers to keep me from immune compromised, attempted survival on the streets of Portland. This support and care literally saved my life in the early days of covid 19. THANK YOU ! ! !”
