Visitation Church

My kids are the 4th generation of our family to go down to Verboort to buy sausage and saurkraut. My Grandparents started going to Verboort in 1952 and we've lot the tradition. This year's sausage was one of the best ever. Less fat, no bones and great smokey flavor.

Go to the Verboort Sausage and Sauerkraut Festival. You won't regret it!! But it only happens once a year and it already passed, so go to it next year the sausage is amazing and so is a sauerkraut. The line can be long but it is definitely worth the wait. I would suggest dressing warm, make sure you have a nice hot cup of coffee and a chair to sit on if you have a difficult time standing because we stood in line for about 2 hours. the fun part of this is that the end we go and buy some sausage to eat before we go home because smelling it makes you hungry specially when you're waiting in line to buy your sausage.

The first Saturday of November every year. Portland's largest and oldest folk festival. Sauerkraut and sausage raised on the beautiful North Plains. I have pot holders that are 40 years old that I purchased there.

Such a lovely, small church filled with friendly, welcoming people. I really enjoyed the homily too.
