Starr Farm

We had such a great experience at Starr! A friendly man and fruits with good price. Have to highlight the apples are incredibly juicy and sweet! Got some persimmons and cabbages too. Planning to come back again for sure.

If you arrive expecting the polished glamor of those mega popular u-pick farms, you will be sorely disappointed. You should arrive expecting a family farm- because that's what it is. A man and his family growing food, and letting us city people enjoy the fruits of their labor. Hehe fruits, get it? Because we're picking their blueberries 🤣. Anyway, dad jokes aside, this place is a rare-find in a really densely populated area.

What this farm lacks in branding and overall refinement, they make up for by offering a really mellow, off-the-beaten-path experience that is not common near the Portland metro. I went here as a last minute adventure with my kids last July and due to the covid regulations all of the usual spots were completely full for the day. But I ended up stumbling apon this gem and I was thrilled.

Pulling up to the farm you'll notice that they grow all sorts of goodies besides the berries, and they sell those items to whenever they're in season. Eventually you'll come to the barn where you'll likely be greeted by the farmer, or his wife. They'll tell you the basics and point you to the berry patch. And it is vast! They had tons of space to meander through the well established blueberry bushes without ever stumbling across another group of berry pickers. The berries were sold by the bucket and we left with more fruit then we even knew what to do with.

The gentleman who owns the farm is a little rough around the edges but it wasn't so much that I felt unwelcome. Honestly I felt like it added to the authenticity of being on a farm. It was far from the glossy customer service view that the other farms show off.

If you're looking for flawless production value and winning smiles from the cashier, you might want to find a different farm for your berries this summer. Because this spot isn't for everyone. But thats fine, it just means more blueberries for me 😉

One thing to remember: bring cash, they don't do cards.
