A buddy and I hiked the green trail today. Was a nice 2+ mile moderate difficulty hike, We made the hike in a meandering pace with several stops, and took about an hour and a half to complete the loop. Very enjoyable...temp right around freezing with 10-20 mph winds. Trails were in good shape, despite all the recent rains! Some of the trails were ~6' wide, and others were narrow where we walked single file. Some trails had nice gravel, some moss, some rocky. Enjoyed the open woods, mountain laurel, very pristine small streams, and some nice bluffs looking over the woods below. Discovered an underground stream where a hole in the surface disclosed the stream about 3' down. Very enjoyable, and not a speck of litter!!!!! I hope all continue to keep it that way.

Great place for hiking. Checked out the little bridge that spans a meandering stream. I call it "Tranquility Bridge"- a great place to sit and enjoy quietness. Watch for tics as is the case when hiking in most any forest.

A very nice day hike location. Maps have always been fully stocked and trails very well maintained. They have recently installed a suspension bridge connecting the grey and red trails which makes the creek crossing much easier. The grey trail also boasts a few rhododendron tunnels. If you follow the purple trail along the creek towards the F.E. Walter dam, there is some really cool flood plains along with a massive beaver dam that looks like it has been there for ages. While I haven't explored every inch of the place, the bear creek preserve as maintained by the Natural Lands Trust is a fantastic place to have a nice day away in the wilderness. Highly recommended!

Wonderful large preserve in the Lehigh River Watershed. Three crystal clean streams run through this preserve: Shades Creek, Stony Run, and Bear Creek. There are beautiful waterfalls along the streams which support a high quality cold water native fish species including brook trout. Several simple bridges and one suspension bridge provide safe stream crossing.
The variety of species you may see starts with a warning at the main entrance where you are warned that black bear, bobcat, and Eastern coyote inhabit the preserve. Bird watchers may see Bald Eagles, Osprey, hawks, falcons, owls, warblers, scarlet tanagers, veeries, overnbirds, and indigo buntings.
The preserve center has a great variety of plants including oaks, maples ash mountain laurel and Rhododendron. On some trails you will go through a Rhododendron tunnel.

You can't find trails with more spring in the area. They haven't been beaten down. These trails are wild and at times dark, and twisting between thick stands of rhododendron. You'll see waterfalls, boulder cliffs, and gnomes. Oh the gnomes. Geek note: per square inch, I haven't seen another spot that's open to the public with so much biodiversity. Try entering the park from the west some time. The suspension bridge is soooo cool.
