Steel Penny Cafe

Off the beaten path but what a wonderful meal I had at the Steel Penny. The place is literally next to a scrap metal facility on one side and a concrete plant on the other. The interior vibe is definitely industrial with sheet metal walls and garage doors but it all works. You can order when you walk in or opt for table service. They do serve beer, but I stopped in during the week for lunch so I didn't partake. I had their pizza which was excellent, the crust nice and crispy. Our waitress was very nice, service could have been a touch quicker but all in all a very pleasant meal, will be eating here again. There was plenty of seating, plus I noticed some folks just hanging out with their laptops so it's part coffee house too.

Wow, what a cool find!! Not a place you would expect, or where to expect it but it's so independent and different, feels like a local place for local people you find in the city. Fun pizza options with lots of beer options. Just a fun place with lovely staff and something a bit different.

As a Mitten-born gal who’s been away for too many years to count, it’s been quite a while since I’ve had good Detroit style pizza. That ended last night.

It’s not a large pie but it’s a heavy pie and it’s absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to have it again - and again. Though first, have to try the traditional hand tossed pizza.

Glad to have discovered this gem in our new neighborhood.

Super cute place! Not a fan of the breakfast menu though, all sandwiches are made on rosemary focaccia bread, I don't like rosemary. I asked if another bread could be used and was told no...had a croissant but was disappointed in the freshness. Maybe I will try lunch ??
