  During my 1 year stay at Hillside, I have to say was very pleasant. The price for my 2 bedroom which included free cable was the best for Utica (895). They accept pets which was a must with us. I had a few things we needed fixed in my place (leaky faucet), which was fixed in a timely manner. The maintenance staff are super nice. During the winter our driveways and parking lots were kept clean and free of snow. The walkways shoveled. Trash and water are automatically included. Electric and heat werent that bad of a price for the area. We were running the a/c all summer and obviously heat all winter. It has pretty good insulation. Thanks again for making my stay in Utica a good one!

  I always see negative reviews when it comes to almost anything on google so I thought I take the time to write a positive review about my apartment. My husband and I moved in our apartment about 5 months ago with our two young children. There has been some ups and downs but for the most part our experience has been pleasant. I think Hillside is a great starter apartment. They aren't the most luxurious apartments but I have seen much worse. I can give pros and cons:
  
  Cons: My apartment has had very few issues that would cause a lot of concern for me but I understand everyone is different so here it is; There have been some mishaps I noticed with the installation of some of the doors in my apartment. My children's bedroom door came off the hinge once but my husband was able to fix it. The reason the door came off is because it was installed incorrectly. There have been some bugs but I purchase the raid bates and keep my apartment clean so it's rare that I see them. We also have seen some mice but I think they had an exterminator come out because I saw mice when I first moved in but haven't seen any in the past month or so. (They might have moved to a more dirty apartment; keep your apartment clean) The sound barriers aren't great. We have a family living above us and hear their children running all the time (this doesn't bother me, I have kids so I understand. I know that this may bother others though, so I mentioned it). The door that leads to the building I live in stops working correctly often. This actually does bother me because its a safety issue that anyone can access our building. There aren't many amenities. They have laundry rooms but that's about it.
  
  Pros: It is very evident that the management is working on improving the appearance of the complex. Since I have moved in they have renovated several apartments (ours was newly renovated before we moved in), They have painted the doors of the different buildings, they have installed parking signs for the residents, and the grounds are kept neat. I have never had a problem with contacting maintenance. They have always answered my calls and came out in a reasonable time. The management seems friendly. I have read some reviews prior to moving in that claimed the property manager was rude. I can not attest to that, she has been very polite and kind during all of our encounters. I think the rent is reasonable. The only utility I pay is electric and everything in the apartment is gas (the stove and heat are gas) so my electric bill is never high. They seem to try to make the residents feel welcomed. During thanksgiving they put up signs letting us know the office hours for the holidays and also wished everyone a happy thanksgiving. Right now we are in the Christmas season and they are having a door decorating contest. The apartment community is very family friendly.
  
  Conclusion is that I am enjoying my experience so far here. If you are just looking for a first place and don't have too many high-end demands then I would recommend this to you. If you are more luxurious and want more amenities then this isn't the place for you. Overall I think its good.
