“Laverne's Restaurant, the perfect stop for homestyle cooking, and great desserts. Located snugly between Waynesburg and Jefferson, on Pennsylvania Route 188, very near the intersection with state route 221. Easy access from the Ruff Creek exit (exit 19) of Interstate 79 makes this place convenient to areas like Washington, as well. A fairly large restaurant with plenty of seating, including a counter for the quick bite. The decor is a little dated, but I think that just adds to the charm of the establishment. It is, however, incredibly clean and well maintained. An excellent place to take the kids, as the family friendly atmosphere almost makes you feel like you're in Grandma's dining room. My family has been eating here for decades, and I've never had a bad experience. The food is always fresh, hot, and delivered with a smile, with plenty of options on the menu to please even the pickiest of eaters. This visit was for Thanksgiving dinner, and everything was delicious. Pies are baked fresh daily, and boy do they sell them. My personal favorite for dessert is the apple dumplings with ice cream. The dumpling is served hot and the ice cream slowly melts as you nibble. Also, some of the best coffee I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. For friendly service, excellent food and very fair prices, make the trip to Laverne's. It's worth the drive from anywhere in Washington, Green and Fayette counties. Go check it out, you'll be glad you did!”

Hers was excellent as was mine. They have the best coleslaw of anyone. It’s ground and very creamy. So if you like this style you’ll love theirs. The pie is homemade and you can taste the difference. My wife had apple and it was absolutely delicious as was my berry. Finally found a home cooking family restaurant. Locally owned and operated. Met the owner who was the chef. “Wonderful experience. Our family has been eating here for 30+ years. We had my grandparents 50th anniversary, our wedding rehearsal dinner, and every time we are in the area we take my parents here. If there was a place like this near where we lived, we would eat there 2x per month. Please note the photos were from October 22, 2022 (for menu prices, etc). The petite filet remains at 48 dollars for 8oz, cooked to perfection. The photos are of Veal Marsala, Chicken Marsala, Filet Mignon and Cheesecake. Try it, you will not be disappointed. You must call for a reservation, they can not accommodate walk-ins and be patient, it is a relaxed meal that is not rushed.”

“My wife and I had a wonderful time at the 1844 restaurant yesterday 7-2-22 celebrating our 34 wedding anniversary. The meal we were served was excellent and the ambiance quaint and charming. Both of us where wanting a very relaxed and quiet dinner and we we're not disappointed. The staff was pleasant and accommodating and we got our appetizers, salads and entrees very quickly. Both of us were very pleased with the evening we spent there and would like to once again share our compliments to the chef as well as the owner of the establishment and our waitress for marvelous anniversary meal. I would reccomend the 1844 restaurant to all who wish to have a delicious meal in a quaint country setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city anytime. We do plan on visiting again hopefully in the near future! And I do suggest the Crem brulee and the New York cheesecake with raspberry topping for desert!🤗”

We split an appetizer: the fried sampler it had: zucchini planks, cheese balls, breaded cauliflower, breaded mushrooms and the biggest hand breaded chicken tenders I've ever seen. With marinara, ranch and an orange mildly spicy dipping sauce. We split as our entree an Italian sampler: Lasagna (home made) it was good, gnocchi tasted homemade pretty good, homemade cheese and beef ravioli really good, homemade manicotti very good and spaghetti (good)with a meatball(excellent). Served with a side salad and full bread service. Our server was really good especially with how busy they were, overall really good.”
