My dear friend had encountered several ok to sub par San Antonio hospices before finding Guiding Light, we met with Dan who sold me with his honesty and didnt over promise or set expectations they may not keep as many do! My freind is not the easiest to care for and finally needed a placment out of the home. They helped us to find a place unfortunatly this small family care home was determined unsafe within weeks of her arrival there, being short staffed and unregulated, and urgent replacement was needed. They pulled together as a team and in my 30 years as a previous hospice director they truly impressed me and her son -they found a safe place for her in under 24hrs. I would highly recommend the coordination and care shown by this hospice to others seeking a safe place for a family member to spend their remainder of their time on earth with. I don't think that anyone wants to be in the position where they have to choose hospice for a loved one. We were so afraid of making the wrong decision and we were not ready to provide the kind of care that we felt that my father would need however, the staff at guiding light were very honest, demonstrated a lot of empathy and helped us through a very difficult time.
It takes a really wonderful, special and beautiful person to be able to do what they do. It takes strong character to be able to deal with the pressures that the loved ones around a dying person put on them. The questions that we ask and the assurances that we seek. Assurances that cannot be provided except by God.

My mother has been under Guiding Light Hospice care for going on two years. She has received excellent care from the entire staff. The nurse and CNA have been incredible to my mother. For me, they have been my saving grace. Everyone has been professional, kind, and helpful...guiding me through this difficult time. I cannot express my gratitude for their service and compassion.
The most important and difficult decision you will ever make when you or a loved one is near the end of physical life, is choosing a hospice care provider. If you are considering Guiding Light Hospice, I recommend you look no further. When my husband's cancer had progressed to the most advanced stages, Guiding Light truly became the guiding light for me, my husband and our family. The entire Guiding Light team was exceptional, from our first point of contact who came out to our home to meet my husband and our family, to our coordinator and our AMAZING hospice nurse. When your hope is gone, all that remains is the desire for a peaceful transition, at home, with dignity. Guiding Light gave this to my husband and our family, serving as an anchor to guide us through the most frightening storm anyone can ever go through--death. Beyond their exceptional attention to detail, extremely prompt service, infinite capacity for caring and empathy, in the final days when things were at their worst, Guiding Light's after-hours/weekend on-call team was incredible. There will come a time, usually in the midnight hours, when your loved one will be crying out, and Guiding Light was there every single time we called, be it to advise us or to dispatch a nurse out immediately. In our time of greatest fear, of greatest need, Guiding Light delivered, and held our hands to ease my husband's suffering, and our family's fear, exhaustion, and emotional upheavals. They will help you and your loved one through your darkest hours, and guide you all back into the light.
One thing to prepare yourself for is that though Guiding Light provides extremely thorough, top-level care, home hospice is not home care. Some people, like my husband, required 24 hour home care assistance in his final days, and Guiding Light will provide you with wonderful local companies who will send a caretaker in those final days/weeks when/if your loved one needs constant supervision/care. Do not hesitate to get overnight care when that time comes, as you will need your sleep to get through something like this. Do not try to do everything yourself, (we made this mistake at first out of our sense of duty and love for my husband) but if you try to be everything to your loved one, you will break, and be no good when your loved one needs you to sustain them. In the final days when my husband needed after hours care (someone to sit by his bed all night long), Guiding Light was there for us the moment we called with emergencies, and they were there to direct the after hours home care nurses. We cannot recommend Guiding Light more highly, and we will forever be grateful to them for giving my husband and our family the dignity of dying at home, surrounded by family and love. Said simply, they are a team comprised of Earth Angels (literally). Look no further. You found them.
Guiding Light Hospice took care of my mom for a year before she passed. They were compassionate and supportive to me and my family. I couldn’t have asked for anything that they wouldn’t have done for us. I couldn’t have gotten through this difficult time if it weren’t for Cassandra mom’s caring and knowledgeable nurse along with the incredible support from our social worker Amber and our Chaplain Rudy. All were there with me during this emotional and draining time! In my opinion, Guiding Light Hospice gave my mom the best quality of life I could have hoped for under the circumstances.
