Considering I didn't have to shell money directly out of pocket to go here, I would say it was a great high school. This is a school that helps to create well rounded students with good character. Although some of the "regular" classes can be a real joke, students have the opportunity to enroll in higher level classes if they're looking for a more educational experience. That being said, they still have great programs for visual and performing arts (the band is particularly well known), not to mention the athletic department's usually hold their own (bowling and cheerleading always do very well). Even though Madison has a reputation for being "that one school some kid brought an AK to" a few years back, I never felt like I was truly in harm's way here. Lots of fun stories to look back on, and a less stuck up community than many other of the NEISD high schools. Go mavericks!
This was such a FANTASTIC school! I started freshmen year at this school and graduated from here as well! Yes there's been horrific stories like crazy fights, drug dealings & more....
But come on now! EVERY SCHOOL IN THE UNITED STATES will have this happening now a days.
But other than that, this is a good choice Out of so many schools in SA Town if you live on the North East Side.
I went to Madison in the 80's, it was a good school! I can tell you this, I have lived in Georgia for 22 years and my children have gone to school here, and it is terrible! The schools here are close to being some of the worst ranked schools academically speaking, in the US besides Alabama, Tennessee and so on.I wish my children had gone to schools like those on the North East side of San Antonio. There were dress codes back then and you were held accountable for not doing your work the first time! With all the ways we have to communicate today and check grades online, it is so difficult to get the teachers here to communicate.
I love how no one writing bad reviews of the school have any concrete statistics. I actually go to Madison and have had a very nice experience there. I have never seen any gang violence, and yes there are fights, but that's to be expected at a high school. To the people that said we have shootings, that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Also, the AG program does attract smart students. We have students going into veterinarian science, advanced animal science, there is a class for scientific research on plants and animals, we have numerous students participate in science fair and we just had a girl win a spot in the international science fair. I believe the AG program is great for academics and I don't even participate in it. The area is very nice and most kids that go to the school are concentrated on their studies and do not cause discipline issues. It is a very nice public school.
