“It's been over 10 years since I've gone to a salon to get my hair done (for a number of reasons), but today I decided to practice self-care and treat myself by allowing a professional to tighten my locs. It was so awesome to reconnect with Tonya, one of the best natural hair stylists in Houston and the original owner of Uncle Funky's Daughter. She last did my hair more than a decade ago, but I was quickly reminded of three things today that were the exact same experience for me over a decade ago: 1). A very relaxing, almost therapeutic scalp massage during the shampoo and conditioning process; 2). I did not have locs the last time she did my hair, but I loved today's results, just as I'd always loved my comb coils or two strand twists years ago; and 3). How awesome she was/is with respecting my time because I received a shampoo, conditioner and interlocking style and was in and out of the salon in less than two hours!
