I've been a learner (our term for student) at New Tech since my freshman year in 2011. When I visited New Tech for the first time, the collaboration, innovation, and passion I saw was unlike anything I would have imagined for a school. Since I've been here, I've learned that I had only witnessed the surface, and there was so much more to New Tech. The way we work in Project Based Learning has allowed me to learn the required content in a substantial and lasting way, connecting everything to the world around me. Aside from content, I've grown in my people skills. I am now able to get into a group of strangers and complete a major task with very few social bumps along the way. I pride myself on my public speaking skills, something that all of my facilitators (our term for teachers) have nurtured in me for the past 3 years. I've formed incredible, lasting relationships with my fellow learners and my facilitators. It's an incredible feeling to know that so many people genuinely care about me on a personal level.
On another note, I am incredibly excited and feel ready for college. As I have been taking dual credit college courses at North Lake Community College (a graduation requirement) I have no worries about my future college classes, or approaching my professors for help. Through this opportunity I've learned how to take a college class - as opposed to a high school class - in a low risk environment. As another graduation requirement, every learner must complete 25 hours of a job shadowing and internship experience. This has allowed me to explore the fields I'm considering going into - not to mention that it's a great resume booster.
And again, the social and professional skills that are embedded in everything we do here at New Tech have prepared me to go away from high school to successfully make connections and do things for myself. The education I've earned at New Tech - incorporating both hard skills like content and written communication, and soft skills like oral communication and collaboration - is unlike anything I could have hoped to get out of my high school experience.
I have no hesitation in saying that choosing to attend New Tech High @ Coppell has thus far been the best decision of my life.
New tech has really prepared me for the future. Going to new tech has helped my communication skills so much that i can stand up in front of crows of hundreds of people and just speak without any fear. I love new tech and recommend it to everyone!
