  Get there at 630 am (before they open @ 730), bring a book & a chair...maybe some coffee & it's all going to work out for you! Many complaints I see under the 1 star category are wait times. Every dps has long wait times...everybody knows that. This dps is the cleanest in the city & every person I have encountered has been nice (I've been 3 times).

  Great experience and system they have. I walked in and they had Step signs. Step 1 is go to these automated kiosk machine which asks a couple of questions to categorize your needs and then print out the appropriate ticket queue number. An employee actually approached me and asked if I needed any assistance - now that is a sign of good service. Next step was forms and they had the forms available and a big area with tables for your convenience to fill out. Next step was the waiting area where there are multiple big TVs that showed a list of called numbers. Number announcements are loud and clear. Waiting area has easy access bathrooms and water fountains.

  I’m new to Texas so I had to get a new license. I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to update my license because I had not made an appointment. I left work early and arrived at 3:55. There was a small line outside that disappeared after I parked my car. The guy on the inside by the kiosks was very friendly and helpful. I received my number and sat to wait for my number to be called . And even though there was definitely a lot of people there the numbers were called quickly. My number was called at 5:10 and although I had to wait some more because the customer before me wasn’t finished the lady at number 35 was pleasant and helpful (not mean at all! Which is what you might think after a long day of non stop customers).She made the whole process pretty painless. I was finally finished by 5:40 even though I didn’t make an appointment. Not bad only an hour and a half .So if you can get there at least a few hours before they close you shouldn’t have any issues. Just make sure you have the documents you need. No complaints here :).

  Went over there to surrender my driver license into a US one. My relocation agent made the appointment and was with me. I could not say any bad about this place. Sure it's very crowded but the staff try the best to handle. Special thanks to Yvonne.

  I was dreading this experience but was pleasantly surprised. I needed a renewal and woke up early to do the mobile “get in line” but it didn’t work early, showing “nothing available” after several attempts (around 7:30 am). I gave it one more try later at about 9 am and the web page gave me a time an hour and a half later. I went a little early and there are two lines, one for the people that didn’t do the reservation and one that did. There was a very pleasant but sufficiently firm woman at the door directing traffic. I could understand someone in that role becoming surly but she wasn’t. She had a smile most of the time I watched. A little earlier than my time, she let me in a small group in. Inside was very spacious and clean. You type your cell into a kiosk and it spits out a number. Because I pre-filled out my renewal papers, I could skip the next “form filling out” section, and an extraordinarily friendly woman at the desk looked at my papers suggested a less crowded waiting place across the way. While seated, a very polite smiling DPS officer in full trooper gear nicely asked people to please clear the empty seats next to you of papers because he was about to let a larger number of people in. My number was called about 10 minutes after my scheduled time. I went to a numbered sit down station, and another friendly, businesslike woman pleasantly went to work on the computer, did my eye test, took my pic, took my payment, and that was it. I think it was maybe 30 minutes from arriving at the front door. I’ve seen all the bad reviews, but my experience was completely pain free and quick. In fact I left kind of proud that our state government seems to have its act together.
