“There were a series of months in the past 3 years where I found that I couldn't afford groceries for my son and myself. I'm a senior on Disability and have had to give up all breakfast and lunch food purchases for the past 8 years in order to afford my doctor and prescription copays. Someone gave me a list of benevolence organizations in my area that may be able to assist in my nutrition as I am HIV+ and nutrition is one of several ways to remain healthy and keep the virus from progressing into AIDS. The folks in the food pantry were very kind and sweet and most helpful and respected my dignity as I don't like asking for help. I'd rather help others than ask for help, however, I had no choice but to ask or let my son and I get sick fromnot eating at all. ONLY ONE senior womean was rude, condescending and showed no respect not just towards me but the few others that were there on this one and only one occasion. WithWthe Lord's wisdom, I held my tongue, silently forgave her, however, I wrote a letter to the parish priest whose name escapes me at the moment. I described the toxic incident and he was quite thankful for the information and I mediately removed this person from face to face contact with the programs' clients. I didn't want anyone else to experience what I had. Some folks don't stand up for themselves especially when they feel that they've had to humble themselves to get assistance. Learning to be humble is a good thing if done properly and without any demonstrative action towards the individual. Usually female clients have their children in tow and that type of incident could possibly leave an indelible mark or reference point in their most impressive lives. I was so very thankful that no confrontation was made in public or private but the priest's response was STELLAR & MOST APPRECIATED. I'm also thankful that she was a volunteer as I would hate to see anyone lose their income oversuch an unfortunate incident. I am still struggling quite a bit since Harvey. Needed groceries but had no transport to get there. It's closeout can't walk even that 1 mile stretch without help of a cane or waljker but I'm alive and that's good enough for me.”

“There are not enough glowing words to describe how much we love this school. We came in as a new family to the 4s Monkey Class this year after moving to the area. Our son literally begs to go to school in the morning and his teachers (Ms. Hunter and Ms. Alexander) and ALL of the school's staff go great lengths to ensure a joyful, constructive, fun, learning environment. They are learning 'book stuff' but also to be independent little humans with basic life skills. I wish we had another year at WMDS, but Kinder, here we come.”

“We love this school! We started our little boy at 2 years old, and unfortunately are relocating out of state and thus have to say goodbye to these wonderful people. Our experience with Pilgrim Lutheran has been top notch. When our 2 year old first started, he wasn't talking yet. The developmental leaps he has made there are amazing. Over this last year, his speech has improved immensely, and the socialization has been amazing. He loves going to school and seeing his buddies. They also offer cool programs for the little ones to be a part of, like Sensory Stars, Tumble Tykes, Jump Bunch, Spanish lessons and Junior Athlete. He has been in Miss Felicia and Miss Maggie's class and absolutely adores them. They are excellent teachers and truly care about your child. They are so patient! I don't know how they do it with a classroom full of little ones, but they are always smiling. My almost 3 year old now knows his ABC's, can count from 1-10, knows his colors, animals, and can sing many songs. He is also now stringing together 4-5 word sentences. I am so pleased with his progress, which wouldn't have been possible without the help of his awesome teachers and the excellent staff there. It's tough to entrust your children to a new place, but I highly recommend Pilgrim Lutheran School!”

“I just ran across this post and was so surprised that I told a dozen BYDS parents about it, all of whom were shocked by the content of the post. I would like to submit very respectfully that Ms. Kumar's experience is totally different from the BYDS the rest of us know. Two of my children are already students at Beth Yeshurun Day School, and my littlest one is about to start in CDO. It actually surprised me when I came to BYDS just how many not-Jewish, intermarried, and other couples there were for a school with such a strong Hebrew curriculum! (You'd have to really like the school both socially and academically in order to have your kids educated in Hebrew if you didn't have a strong personal reason to want your kids educated in Hebrew, right?) Additionally there are Jewish people all along the spectrum of observance from totally unobservant to quite observant indeed. Every time I've had a concern about social or academic issues, the administration has taken it very seriously. They have arranged in-person and telephone meetings with me, brought in my children's teachers as appropriate, and arranged repeated visits to classrooms by various experts like the curriculum director, the [secular] learning specialist, or the Judaic learning specialist. The school is large and robust enough to have a lot of after-school activities and options for teacher style, but the classes are so small that my children's teachers know my kids nearly as well as I do. And my kids' educations - both academic and emotional - are tailored accordingly. When my oldest child was in Pre-K, my husband and I toured other schools extensively before making our choice to stay for elementary. And our little cousins go to various top schools around the city, too. What we've found is that BYDS really holds its own academically with the other top schools in the city. What's more, BYDS can go further than any other school in helping the two of us reinforce values we teach at home. It should go without saying - but I guess it doesn't - that not a single Jewish, half-Jewish, or not-Jewish family I know teaches racism at home. Quite the contrary: Judaism is central to the mission and education at the school, Judaism has a long tradition of leadership toward equality for all people, and Jewish people have a long tradition of service to the civil rights movement! No school is perfect, and no school is right for every family, to be sure. Having said that, and I apologize for bragging but feel I must here, my older children are both outstanding readers who read far above grade level! Their teachers have always encouraged and promoted my children's passion for reading without pushing them before they were developmentally ready. And among the parent body, parent-friends with experience as educators are constantly raving to me about this or that aspect of the school's curriculum. I'm deeply sorry for Ms. Kumar's bad feelings, but they're so far removed from my experience and that of my peers that it's hard even to imagine that this is an entirely fact-based set of criticisms. ”

“I have nothing but good things to say about Randy and Kristen Lusby. They are a shining example of what a coach should be and how a coach should act. I first meet them a few month ago when my daughter was recommended to try out for their team by a college coach. Not knowing anything about them we took a chance and went to meet them and the experience was great. I wish I would have had my daughter with them from the time she first took an interest in softball at the age of 4. My daughter just made 17 and is playing on the BreakAway Speed 18U team and loving it. We've been around the softball arena for a while and have played for several different teams over the years. However, none have been this well ran, with great coaches who bring years of experience. This is a top notch organization.”

“I am a proud student of Kim's School of Tae Kwon Do for nearly 2 yrs. Master Kim is one of the most genuine and kindest people I have ever met. Her knowledge of Tae Kwon Do goes beyond measure, but her attitude and persistence in her teachings and encouragement is second to none. Although, I consider myself a well-rounded athlete, I have never been pushed both mentally and physically as much as I have here. What I love most about the school is that each instructor has learned under Master Kim and developed his or her own unique way of leading a class. The school not only challenges me physically and mentally, but it is fulfilling in a cultural, social, and therapeutic way. I highly recommend this school to any ages and all levels!”
