I like my school. I don't know about the others but I thought that the 9th grade teachers I had were nice and my favorite was probably Mr. P the World Geography teacher and Ms. Lowery the Biology teacher. There were a couple of kids that didn't try hard but other than that everyone in my classes seemed to really try and would ask the teachers and fellow students for help. One kid got a bit upset about he got a 93-98 and not a 100. That made me happy cause it showed that he actually cared about his grades. Most of the people I was around seemed to push themselves. There were some kids that didn't seem to care but what public school doesn't have these types of kids? I didn't know what to expect when I came here but I'm glad I came????
I would give Westbury, Ms. Monahan and the staff 5 stars except, all schools have room for growth and Westbury is still growing. I've had two sons attend the Westbury. Over the years dealing with the various administrators and the evolving teaching staff, I would venture to say that the restoration of Westbury is much appreciated. I take offense that someone would say if your kid is "White and speaks well, don't send them here." My children are BLACK and speak well. What the hell is that supposed to mean? To that idiotic review I respond, if such is your child and they are failing at BELLAIRE or LAMAR (or any other school for that matter), don't rush to enroll them in Westbury right before graduation to get their raggedy class ranking up, thus bumping the kids who have worked hard at WESTBURY to get a decent ranking for college. Don't send your kids here to jump on the award winning dance team. Don't send your no-rhythm having kids to play in the bands (marching, jazz or concert) that the district request for their programs. Don't send your kids here to join the flourishing sports programs (or to play on the new baseball field, on the new tennis courts, or in the new gym(s)). If you are sending your kid to Westbury to take up space and leech off of the good works of the students who are here, then keep them home and home school them - better yet, let the fail at the fancy "better" school in which you had them enrolled.
For the students who didn't learn anything and so you've left bad reviews....perhaps you didn't learn anything because you didn't apply yourself. Teachers can only do so much.
I had a son graduate in 2012 and have another graduating in 2019 and yes, there are some bad teachers (as at any school) but there are far more great and caring ones than not.
I suggest that if you HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED the Rebel/Huskie life, that you keep your comments to yourself.
I like this school I really do, it can be lit sometimes but it can really suck.
I’m a sophomore and there can be some really ignorant teachers but I’m not gonna call any names out. I’m a good student I do my work or try my best when I don’t understand. Kids here are somewhat idiots or ignorant. School lunch sucks but it’s kinda decent, the lunch trays suck because you can’t place more then one item or else everything will fall off it. Also when I walk out of school there’s a lot of weed junkies around, they must be really though because they just start smoking right after school but hey The ya re outta school property so the teachers can’t do anything. This school deserves a 7.5/10. Yes I’d recommend coming here it’s super easy to pass.
Westbury is a great place to start new things. I was in 10th grade when i signed up for piano, and it was worth it! There was a schedule issue, but it kinda worked out. Also they got a bit strict and one new rule stood out a lot: if you are seen in a scene of a fight and standing there and supporting it, you will get in trouble with the people who were in the fight. It is a really good rule. There are also great teachers that i met and i will miss them greatly because one of them aren't coming back until i am in my senior year! I am going to be a junior when i come back to school
