The interior of this place is quite nice - surprisingly so. It’s in a well-trafficked part of town, and is a free, public resource, and naturally, people take advantage of it. Good on them; that’s what it’s for.
I get that if you came here to study, it could be distracting to hear, smell or otherwise be aware of other human beings, and people pass through here who desperately need a safe space, even if just for a while.
I can’t really hold that against the library - I’m glad it’s here for them, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
Suffice it to say: if I needed absolute peace and quiet (isolation, etc), I wouldn’t recommend a public library (if you have other options). If you don’t have other options (apart from the network of HPL libraries), this place is pretty great.
There is a ‘Living Room’ with 10 very large, comfortable sitting chairs, magazine rack, 5 charging stations (2 outlets on a side table in between each pair of chairs) and a huge picture window that opens onto a space that is likely shielded from direct sunlight during all operating hours.
It’s got a sparse, odd interior design (like several of the HPL locations in the area) that seems like someone at an architecture firm read an article about hygge once, but I like that it’s updated and clearly some resources were devoted.
Highly recommend. And give to the Friends of the Library Society.
This library is clean and spacious. I’ve never had issues with parking (even during the weekends).
