I saw Dr. Curtis for the first time on Friday. She demonstrated she is very knowledgeable about medications, asked plenty of clarifying questions, listened to my concerns with empathy. She gave a very thorough education about my new medication, recommended other helping professionals, and tailored therapy for me. I'm very glad to have established as her patient. Thank you, Dr. Curtis.

This is not a denunciation of Dr. Curtis, in fact, she is wonderful. Her front office staff on the other hand is abhorrent, they shouldn't be taking calls from people that are seeking help for mental health issues. I go to Dr. Curtis because I trust her judgment. Today I was very close to returning to my old Physiatrist because of the extremely rude office staff. I hope they can get the office help squared away. I know they are tarnishing the reputation of several other Doctors that share the building. UPDATE: I spoke with the office manager and they seem to have addressed the Issue - much more courteous and polite on the phone. I wrote this post a very long time ago, their office staff is top notch now. They listen to feedback.

Dr. Curtis is fantastic, empathetic, and professional. I have been seeing her for over a year at this point and she was rated as the best Psychiatrist in Lubbock 2018 for a reason. She has worked with me and been patient in finding the right combination of meds for me, and also promotes healthy lifestyle changes which also have helped tremendously.

However, the office staff...one of them is great and always kind; I'm sorry I don't remember her name or I would give her props as well.

The other person who works in the office is making me quesrion if I can continue coming here.

Today, I called to call in a prescription and was told that Dr. Curtis will be unable to write it until she gets her new RX because she needs new DEA prescriptions and expects those to arrive within a month. I was advised to reach out to my PCP to get it filled in the mean time.

I understand, and that was something I am able to do, so no worries there. But before I could ask another question, she quickly said goodbye and got off the call.

So I called back after their lunch, and unfortunately got the same person on the phone. The conversation went like this:

"Hi, I called earlier about my xx prescription, but I was wondering if I needed to do the same for my xx and xx prescriptions."

She immediately became demeaning. Her tone of voice changed and she said, rather condescendingly:

    "JUST CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES".

So I asked, "Well does that include the xx and xx or no?"

Her reply, NO, JUST THE xx prescription" speaking very slowly as if I were special needs.

"The reason is because those were filled LAST NIGHT and Dr. Curtis isn't in on Wednesdays"

"I'm not trying to be rude here, I was just calling because I refilled two yesterday from Walgreens and I got a notification...."

I reiterated that I appreciated the information but I just wasn't sure because the message came through from my pharmacy about my others and that there would be a delay. I don't have Dr. Curtis' schedule memorized and wouldn't have called if it hadn't been for the notification from the pharmacy after being told the doctor couldn't write that prescroption. I didn't need it rushed, I was just trying to be prepared for when I saw my PCP.

I then said "Sorry for calling" to which she replied:

"Sure, no problem, have a good day". Trying to get me off the phone as fast as possible and again speaking to me as though I am a child.

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after that one.

I am treated for anxiety and a few other issues. Typing this out and posting it makes me anxious, calling the Dr. Office who treats me for that and being demeaned and condescended to makes me anxious and stressed out about calling again in the future if I need something.

So now I'm freaking out, which was probably not the office clerk's intentions, but I know she crossed a line of professionalism in what she said and how she said it to me, and it should be her job to cater to the needs of her clientele.

I wouldn't be writing this post if I didn't have similar issues with the same person before.
