Sam Houston National Forest - Double Lake Recreation Area

  Located only 1 to 1.5 hours from Houston is one of the best kept secrets among campers. Sites are well shaded by trees during the summer months and are well spaced apart from other sites for privacy. There are sites for RV's, tent sites with water/electricity or tent sites without water/electricity depending on how much you want to rough it. The public restrooms/bath houses are clean and adequate.

  Very peaceful and relatively quiet for a cool weather kind of day (Feb 22). More people here than we expected, but not a problem. Perfect for a walk on the woods

  What a beautiful place!!! One amazing hike I had. Didnt see much people at all during my hike. Gotta say it was scary but peaceful to be able to be in the woods alone. First time ever going will definitely go again!!

  My kids aged 3-15 always have a wonderful time here. Either for the day or the weekend when we camp. The staff, for camping, is very friendly and helpful. Between the fishing, camping, swim area, and trails it's a great family friendly place.
