He is kind, patient, and encouraging but also sets good expectations for his students. Our son and daughter, 13 and 11, started lessons with Derek 7 weeks ago. We make sure they practice daily and Derek takes care of the rest. We are thrilled with how quickly they are learning and how good they sound. They each learned a full song by the end of 5 or 6 weeks. As a parent, it's awesome to watch your children gain confidence as they see expert teaching and practice produce rewarding results.
