I found this place yesterday while looking for a place to buy a colonial hat for my daughter's school project. We learned that it will only be open until this weekend because NPS has ordered it to be closed and everything removed by the 21st of December.
We showed up anyway, and I am so happy we did. The farm itself is closed for the winter season, but the gift shop is still open. They have so many cool things. We found replica colonial money, wooden toys like a sword, bow and arrow and sling shot. There are hand spindles and wool bags to practice spinning with. They have craft projects, jewelry, and soaps.
I absolutely loved everything the shop had, and I am super bummed that it is closing. I wish the National Park Service would reconsider this decision because the farm is self sufficient, and it is a great opportunity for visitors to learn about colonial farm life. I feel like a valuable educational resource is being lost. ????
This farm was super cool. I went in the summer and I liked looking at the garden and 18th century housing. The 18th century gal in this photo answered all my questions about what life would have been like back then. Lovely person.
This place is awesome. The kids I was with enjoyed so much. The actors answered all the question, they are very nice, and never get out of the character.
Love the living history and wood smoke of a colonial farm in 1771. This is a picture of the kids militia; they are about to March around. They have some simple food and colonial printing, bookbinding, crafts, toys, and leather goods available at their market fair. Fun for kids and historians all!
Such a treasure! I love having Claude Moore Colonial Farm in my backyard and inside the beltway. A unique 1771 farm about the average colonial family. Walk through the farm and see chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows. You feel like you've stepped back in time. We love going to the market fairs held 3 times a year. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced. You can also enjoy alcoholic drinks at the fair. You can take in the farm and the fair in a couple of hours.
