  As someone with zero prior experience/training in martial arts, I wasn’t sure what type of martial arts program, or atmosphere, would be right for me. After doing some Googling, I came across the Virginian Okinawan Karate Dojo and got in contact with Sensei Roberto. He was very helpful in answering questions I had, and explaining what to expect in the class. After conferring with him, I decided to try 3 free classes. After 3 classes, I was hooked and am now a member of the Dojo. That was a little over a month ago and I couldn’t be happier that I decided to try it out.
  
  Initially, I was intimidated by the idea of training alongside classmates of all skill levels, as opposed to just beginners. But everyone was extremely welcoming and helpful, and after the first class all my worries were gone. It is a very positive, fun, judgement-free environment where everyone helps each other, enabling everyone to progress at their own pace. Sensei Roberto is very personable, and takes the time to get to know each of his students. As an instructor he does an excellent job of demonstrating how the moves we learn can be applied in self-defense scenarios.
  
  Overall, I am extremely happy with my decision to join the Dojo. I highly recommend trying the 3 free classes if you unsure if this is the right program for you.

  Collaborative, safe and fun place to learn karate! Great mix of structure/form and practical applications. Classes almost every evening and on the weekends, so there's a class that fits your schedule.

  Whether you are a new martial arts practitioner or an experienced martial artists, you'll learn techniques that will empower you in traditional Okinawan self-defense karate. I've trained for more than a year at this dojo and love it. With every class you learn something new. You'll be challenged physically and intellectually with the curriculum. More importantly, the members of this school encourage working together. It's not about competition. It focuses on cooperation so that everyone gets better. This has been and continues to be one of the most positive experiences I've had since moving to Va. You'll feel empowered, confident, and skilled with everyday of training.

  If you were looking for a place to begin your martial arts journey, this is the place. It does not matter if you are a beginner or experienced in other martial arts forms. This school has a fun and encouraging atmosphere that grows confident and healthy people.
