Beautiful replica and interesting tour. Free with Mount Vernon admission tickets.
This was included within our Mt. Vernon to and it was worth the trip. I was not expecting the mill to actually work. It was neat to see them operate the mill and see how fine the mill can get the corn meal.
Even though both buildings are reconstructions of the originals this is a must stop while visiting Mount Vernon. The staff is welcoming and friendly. Both buildings offer a high interest and educational value.
The tour of George Washington's Gristmill and Distillery was a good addition to the tour of George Washington's Mt Vernon. The tour of each building was short. The tour employees dressed in period accurate clothing and seemed knowledgeable about the operations of the mill and distillery. It was worth the shuttle bus ride to the mill to see how grain was processed in Washington's time.
Included with your ticket to Mt Vernon, and a very cool place to see a working mill and distillery! Definitely worth the extra time to go. We drove, but there is a free shuttle from Mt Vernon to the gristmill/distillery.
George Washington's Distillery is the only authentic 18th-century distillery in the country, and his water-powered gristmill features an automated system with four floors of intricate gears and shafts.

Ten years ago, even the staff at Mount Vernon had no idea that George Washington was one of the leading American whiskey distillers of his era.
