(July 22, 2018, 9:40 pm)They work very hard out here to make sure there are native Virginia plants for a healthy ecosystem. There are butterflies, bees, birds, dragonflies and tons of beautiful flowers there. They even have a native bed hotel! Well worth the trip out there!!

(May 7, 2018, 3:56 pm)A hidden jem!! Merrimac wildlife preserve is absolutely beautiful. When I went, around noon, I was astounded that I did not see any other people there. The bluebell trail is so picturesque, quiet and well maintained. However, the trail signs can be a little misleading when you begin at the Stone House parking lot and go to the left. I reccomend parking at the North gate instead, and head counterclockwise. Also, definitely wear bug spray and check for ticks before leaving.
Such a fun and peaceful hike! You won't be disappointed! -
