(June 20, 2021, 10:40 am)It is nice to have a free place to hunt. The Carlisle tract provides dove fields, turkey, and deer habitat. It has a boat launch as well. Terrain is mostly rolling to flat but there are areas closer to the water with greater elevation drops. I see turkeys most times I visit and have called several in during spring season (though I have yet to harvest one). Deer are harder to come by but I have seen several - some outright giants. We did harvest some dove a few seasons ago.
There is also an area behind the power plant but that is only open at certain times. There is also a plat that is only accessible by boat which I have yet to visit.
If you dont want to pay hunt club dues and you live in the 757 then this is a good option to be in the woods with a shotgun.
The most hunters I have seen on a typical fall day was around a dozen. Spread out across 3500 acres means you get your own slice of paradise.
This is the first place I take new hunters to show them where they can hunt for free. -

(April 11, 2018, 10:02 am)A very nice place to get away! Not crowded. Beware, there's a vehicle search to enter the park because you're crossing through Surry Power plant property.

(October 1, 2017, 12:41 pm)You have to get a vehicle inspection and pass through the nuclear facility so make sure you don't have any weapons in your vehicle. Hog island was great. They have designated fishing areas and such, but the bugs were really bad...I don't think it gets much visitors. Overall it's a nice stretch of wildlife.
