He made sure to let us get a good feel for the very nice airplanes they had. He taught me and my partner so much while also making sure to not overload us early on. Towards the end he stepped back and allowed us to be more hands-on. This experience and him personally made this very memorable and inspired me to pursue aviation. “Brought my 6 month puppy for the obedience bootcamp and completed the group obedience class with Trainer James. Friendly staff and a good environment to ask any questions. Since the bootcamp and the obedience classes my puppy has stopped her leash pulling, counter surfing, and nibbling. Also, she has learned to walk by me and not in front of me which has been amazing!! She has overall better manners and we are working right now on “drop it” and a down stay. Good place to get your puppy a solid foundation!!”

“Got stuck in the mud flats. Made hot milk and clam soup (8600 calories of deliciousness). “We got a runner.” PG and Eddie are incredible. PG taught us 2 of the 7 ways to find a clam. Eddie didn’t laugh when we got stuck. Shaun was there too. -1/5 of a star because we weren’t allowed to drive the skiff #skiffinaround. It was an honor to visit the filming location of “The Lifestyles of the Wet and Muddy.” I got an autograph from a sea hare. The diva of the deep bit my toe. We saw an osprey catch a fish - neat! We held our pee for 7 hours - not as cool! The wind - a lot of it. Got some sick windburn. Some of the local bachelors mentioned our rosy cheeks - jokes on them, that’s sunburn baby. At dredge-o-clock we dropped that bad mamma jamma, and the dredging cousins founded the dredging dynasty. All in all, it was a real treat. VIMs is great. Glad I’m no longer stranded in the Bracks -because in the tidal creeks, it’s everyone for themselves. #AldiGang”

“I lost Alt 1 on my approach to Newport News one afternoon. Not being familiar with the area, I researched maintenance shops online and found Rick Aviation at the airport. John (the owner) took my call and jumped into action. He took my Cirrus into his hanger and personally investigated and found the issue — a broken terminal connection on the #4 wire to Alternator one and a broker stud on the Alternator. This occurred on a Friday afternoon and I needed to return home on Monday. John ordered a new alternator which arrived Monday, installed, tested, etc and had me and my Cirrus ready to go. As it turns out John is celebrating 42 years in business (2019) and there’s no wonder because his shop and facilities are spotless and his employees are talented. John’s charges were very reasonable and he lived up to his promises. I can’t recommend John and Rick Aviation at Newport News Airport (KPHF) more highly. JW, South Carolina”

“I have recently done a Discovery Flight session which was pretty amazing. The instructor was not only helpful in reviewing basic information about the aircraft, but she was also good at debriefing the safety checklist before flying. Additionally, you don't get to just fly next to the instructor, you get to truly fly and control the airplane yourself. The Discovery Flight lasts an hour, but you only get to fly for 30 minutes. The type of aircraft they use to instruct, unless you have your personal airplane, is an SR20. It's a beautiful machine I gotta say, equipped with all-digitalized aviation instruments”
