Nute's Pond Park

Nice pond tucked away in the forest accessible via various loop trails. Easy walking. Little use. Nute's Pond trailhead parking.

Not the biggest largmouth bass around but still fun to catch. Theres gotta be a big one on there somewhere

This is a nice little park in the south end of Bainbridge Island near the top of Toe Jam Hill. The park extends further to the WNW than is indicated in Google Maps. The sign in front of the park says "Nute's Pond Park"; the entrance is to the right of the sign. Please note that despite the fact the sign says "Nute's Pond Park" and the park's website calls it "Nutes Pond Park", Google Maps insists on incorrectly calling it "Newt's Pond Park".

A warning about parking - there isn't much. There is only a drive-way-type pull-in for one car and some street parking (with soft shoulders).

As you enter the park, the pond is on the right and the trail crosses a spillway for the pond. The trail system is basically two big loops. As you walk in from the entrance, the first branch is marked "Loop Trail" to the left and "Pond Access" to the right, but either direction will put you on the larger loop trail. If you took a left, the next branch is marked "Loop Trail" in either direction. This is the smaller loop trail. If you go right, in a short distance you will encounter another branch. From there, the smaller loop trail is to the left and the larger loop trail (and Pond Access) is to the right. There is also a trail straight ahead marked "Dead End" with the park boundary sign a very short distance afterward. The signs are not consistent in marking which trail is called the "Loop Trail".

The trails are very easy to follow and the surface conditions are mostly good to very good. There is a lot of elevation change, but very little that is steep. I didn't measure the distances of each loop, but I did two passes of each loop plus the entrance trail and my GPS indicates that I traveled 1.5 miles.
