“The staff and congregants at this church seem to be fine, caring individuals. As a new resident in Port Orchard, I feel that I have been welcomed and loved by them all. I use a wheelchair, and the building is perfectly accommodating. The restroom is very clean and barrier free according to federal guidelines. This church is exemplary in it's faithfulness to mission. “Saltwater Unitarian Universalist Church is unique. If you're looking for an open-minded, open-armed, welcoming church, this is the place for you. During the pandemic, the church closed its doors and offered remote services not just for the congregation, but also for other Unitarian Churches in the region who weren't as technologically advanced, or that didn't have the equipment to do such things. As things have opened back up, they continue to hold remote services, while keeping small in-person services on Sunday mornings. The church sanctuary is beautiful, with a large full wall window behind the pulpit that allows viewing of the trees that eventually lead into Saltwater State Park. The music director is fabulous and energetic. The minister is kind, thoughtful, and very approachable. The pianist is extremely accomplished and listening to him play is always a treat. The church also provides a program for children and youth that is thoughtful and dovetails nicely with the sermon of the day, without being preachy or indoctrinating. It's a great place for children to develop friendships. There are other programs offered by the church like adult religious education classes, book groups, small group ministry, a caring committee, and various other opportunities to meet others while engaging in things that inspire you - from crafting, to social justice, to coming together for movies or games. The church grounds, apart from being gorgeous and having a maintained trail down to the Saltwater State Park, also sports a full sized labyrinth out front near the memorial garden. People, not just congregants, are encouraged to walk the labyrinth. Disclaimer - I have a been a member for some time now and I'm trying to be as open and honest as possible in my review. The church, like most other organizations, is imperfect, and has had periods of growing pains. However, that being said, I do not hesitate to recommend Saltwater UU church if you are in the market to find a liberal religious community. The long term members have always been welcoming to new members and they genuinely make the place feel like home for ones spirit.”

“I have been at this church for at least 38 years. I have always felt at home here no matter who has been the pastor and the one we have right now are absolutely wonderful! They care and they definitely want you to know they appreciate you coming to the service they enjoy speaking to you and welcome you back. Pastor Devin usually likes to look around for new ones so that he can make sure he greets them before they leave. Janice his wife is the sweetest lady I have ever known as a pastor's wife. They have fostered I believe over 100 children and love them with all of their heart. Our pastor and his wife just casual so that everyone feels welcome. You can dress however you wish but just know no matter what you're wearing we welcome you with open arms. Our children's programs are awesome and so are the teen groups. Our young adults have really grown spiritually. And many have grown up and still come back and those that have moved have done very well spiritually. Our worship team is beautiful. Songs are more contemporary not so much available time religion songs. And occasional one every once in awhile. Our assistant pastor Tyson DeVries is an excellent addition to the Pastoral team. His counseling to those who wish to have it is very informative, caring, and dedicated to helping you get to a place in your spiritual walk or maybe simply answering your questions. “We moved to the area just over a year ago and this is our family church home. Great worship music and relevant, bible based, messages. We visited several churches in the area and this was definitely our favorite. Our kids absolutely love going to newlife and are more involved than ever before! We also like that newlife meets real needs in our communities and has international compassion projects to address global issues (hunger, trafficking, etc). There lots of ways to get connected, such as events and groups of all kinds (bible based, outdoors, mens, womens, community needs, leadership, etc). Newlife has locations in Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton, Bainbridge Island, Belfair, Port Orchard and Sequim. Our family has been to both Poulsbo and Silverdale. Both were great, Poulsbo (meets at NK high school) is a bit closer to our house.”
