This is one Madison's most beautiful overlooks and now, it is designated as a Wisconsin Historical landmark. Yes, that's right. There are mounds that have been officially recognized on top of the bluff! These were constructed 800-years ago by the same natives who built the mounds at Governer Nelson! I always thought the big bluff at this place that overlooks Lake Mendota was likely a sacred site for Native Americans who wanted to see all of Lake Mendota from the bluff. Not only does it overlook Lake Mendota, it overlooks the meadow itself which has beautiful fields, trails and weeping willows. There is at least two mounds on top of the bluff which are currently being studied by archeologists. This is one of the most beautiful and overlooked sites in Madison and I always believed there were mounds on top even before they were officially named. I absolutely love this place and how sacred it is. I recommend a trip in the fall for a spectacular view of Lake Mendota.
Beautiful park in our quiet northside neighborhood.
Named after the historic concrete ridge below the bluff, Meadow Ridge is a treasure to those who want to hike, play in meadows, play basketball, swing, walk along creeks and even climb bluffs! I consider this a dream place. Don't forget, it is connected to Cherokee Marsh Mendota Unit, which is just as magical. You can get to it from Meadow Ridge simply by walking across Sauthoff Road where you will see the Cherokee Marsh trail head. We are lucky to have this place. Please keep it clean! Please do not trash it. The meadow and cliffs and streams are just beautiful!
Cool park, nice little pond and all in all a fun place to visit
While this 18 acre neighborhood park has no rest room facilities, it does offer playground equipment, hiking trails and a basketball court.
