“My two sisters and I brought mom to McKinley Place in Cedarburg, WI two years ago when she could no longer live alone. It was a difficult decision for us as daughters and a very difficult transition for mom as she loved her home in Illinois and did not want to leave there. But with no family in a 2-hour radius and with increasing medical and health concerns, mom could no longer live alone. In spite of that difficult transition, we are so thankful that we made the decision for mom to live at McKinley Place. It has been filled with exceptional staff who have tenderly and compassionately cared for mom. They were there for her before the pandemic, encouraging her as she adjusted to living in this new community and helped her adjust to a new way of living by allowing the support of caregivers. They also supported us, as daughters, to love and care for mom with a team approach. We knew that she was now within 8 miles of her eldest daughter, who could be there any time for support, but mom was also safe and well cared for by qualified staff 24/7. Since the pandemic, my sisters and I were impressed that McKinley Place did not have a single case of Coronavirus in the building from March 2020 until October 2020. And even then, there was only a small number of resident and staff cases, keeping the lockdown regulations at a minimum. We know that this was due to their diligence in adhering to strict guidelines. Although it was not easy to live with these regulations for residents, family, or staff, it resulted in a low number of cases in the building. It was also impressive that staff members stepped up to the plate, taking on responsibilities that were not normally their duty in an assisted living environment. They never complained and were humble when thanked, responding that they did not mind, even though it significantly added to their duties. Our family gratefully thanks all McKinley Place staff for their compassionate care of our mom and support of our family during this time.”
