Just stopped in as side line today,on our weekly drive for Sunday. HAD the dogs with so couldn't take the train ride today. There is still lots to see and take a step back in time. Inside the ticket office there is lots to read and see.
Also a gift shop.
There are 2 very large train storage sheds that house some of the restored passenger cars, and some steam engines. You can also go to the back of the train yard or machine shed where they work and restore old trains.
I would give yourself a few hrs here for sure, bring good shoes or hiking boots.
Water or something to drink when out and about.
There is a train ride that runs 3 times a day,I do believe it's 11,1,and 3pm daily . There is a charge for that but it is reasonable. Ride is about 1 hr long.
Very nice restrooms on site, and a place to sit and have a picnic lunch.
Definitely coming back to take the fall train ride ,or fall foliage ride in late September or October.
Did the Christmas ride yrs back. Santa came and all.
A must for kids 5 and up better than the water park and cheaper.
Don't forget, there is a donation box,in the ticket office, and a guest registry.

This place is a hidden gem. The train ride is really fun and the staff is amazing. The restored trains and museum are really neat and the gift shop has a lot of great toys and gear for any train enthusiast. Definately worth a day trip to see it all in person.
Train enthusiasts will love this place . I found in a travel magazine during our visit to Wisconsin and there was a $5 off coupon . Booked online , very easy. Showed up early to go through the train museum before the train ride .
The restored trains are magnificent. Wish there was a way to view the insides of them rather than trying to peek through a window . But I know it’s to keep them from getting any damage
The volunteers are passionate about restoring these trains and sharing stories about them. One volunteer has been a member , I think he said from the late 60s /early 70s.
The train ride was nostalgic , although not much scenery . Takes you back in time .. there is a nice gift shop with reasonable souvenirs . We were able to pick up a great Christmas ornament for our travel tree.
Even with our group deciding not to ride the train, it was really cool. The historical trains were very well maintained and it was crazy to see how far we’ve come. The museum itself was completely free and we spent a good hour just exploring the multiple buildings filled with historic items, trains, and tracks.
A collection of steam and diesel locomotives in the Mid-Continent Railway Museum's from 1880–1916. Period depot is filled with passenger cars, tank cars, ore car, a crossing shanty, crossing tower, water tower, and a red caboose. Large display of restored vintage railroad pieces. Nice place to take the family and enjoy the history and significance of the railway system.
