The setting is pleasant, and there are some good light hiking trails around that allow you to explore the setting of the civil war battle that took place here.”

“This is the cemetery for the old Joliet Penitentiary and is no longer in use. It replaced the previous cemetery that opened in the 1800's that's located about .75 miles NorthEast. Monkey Hill is well maintained, although access is across a ditch that's often flooded. It's directly across the street from St. Mary's cemetery. It opened in 1936 and was used to inter the unclaimed bodies of inmates. The headstones were manufactured at the old Joliet Penitentiary. Vaults were not used - inmates were buried in pine boxes, and during new burials previously interred would be accidentally exposed. If you're interested in local history or the old Joliet Penitentiary, it's worth a visit.”

“Unfortunately, this quarry did not show up on my Google search results while I was looking for flagstone in Baltimore; however, I sent my contractor to another quarry in the area that had flagstone but was not an exact match to what we needed. My contractor did not follow my directions and made a wrong turn into Jones' Quarries instead of into the quarry where i had sent him. Jones' Quarries had exactly what I needed. And since I did price shopping before I sent out the contractor, I can honestly say that his pricing was excellent! I then met my contractor at the quarry and we dealt with the owner, a fourth generation Jones! The customer service could not have been better. Please note that the location may not be the exact location which will show up in Google maps. It is actually about a mile past Hernwood Elementary School on the left going SW on Marriottsville Rd.”
