“Dr. Yancey, I was in 5th grade when I first came to you as a patient. I had a “significant curve” in my back. Enough for a back brace. I was devastated. I spent my 6th and 7th grade years wearing a brace. By the time I was 13, I needed surgery. I had a 58 degree curve in my spine. I was terrified. I felt like I wasted my time by wearing the brace. Little did I know, it was preventing my scoliosis from getting worse. Anyway, surgery of course sucked, BUT—I am almost 35 years old and I have zero issues with my back! My spine is straight, I’ve had 3 kids, and I am capable of anything! I am happy of my knowledge of scoliosis because I noticed a curve in my son's back. The doctor was surprised that I caught it myself. His is very minor, but still needs to be monitored. Dr. Yancey- thanks so much for helping me! I appreciate you and, clearly, you do amazing work!
