“Great vet with terrific support staff. Dr. Kaufman has been treating our 14-year-old dog Shadow since she was a puppy. He has provided excellent advice and care on many issues big and small. I grew up with lots of animals, and have know a lot of vets over the years, and Dr. Kaufman is one of the best. I once called him at 2 am with an emergency and he calmly talked me through how to solve the problem. He is a great listener and explainer. His office is extremely well run. Appointments are on time and insurance forms filled out quickly. His staff could not be nicer or more competent. He donates care to wildlife and has a rescue dog. Dr. Kaufman has always been there for Shadow.”

“This is by far the best animal clinic that I've been able to visit. My partner and I had concerns about our fur-babies health and called southpaw to see if they could help us after hours and they were happy to oblige. Our vet (trent) kept the doors open an hour after closing in order to see our little man "lennie" and ran all the tests necessary to factor out any critical conditions. We were given ample medication and taught how to administer each one before we left. We are very thankful for the kind and courteous staff at southpaw and we are happy to say that this is our new primary vet.”

“Dr. Shahzad was recommended to us by some friends who also love their pets. We have taken our Hoard (five kittens) to Dr.Shahzad twice. Both times were pleasant visits, where he gently examined all five. We will continue to use Dr.Shahzad for the Hoard, minus two, who've been adopted by a cousin and her husband, for all of their regular check-ups and needed vaccinations.”

“We just moved and I was new to this vet, but I can’t say enough about how they treated me when we had to put our 14yr old Pug down. It was such a hard time for me and they treated me and our sweet dog with so much love and respect. I was very emotional and they brought me in and were beyond patient allowing me to stay and hold him. They even mailed me his footprint with are cars everyone signed later on which was such a sweet gesture! Just enough to make me write a review which I never do. “I bring all 3 of my cats here and have had great experiences each and every time! My oldest cat, Pearl, is my first ever cat and Dr. Dave & the front desk staff were kind enough to answer all my silly questions regarding care. I’ve since gotten two kittens and him and Dr. Barkley have been nothing but helpful. I just brought my newest kitty in (adopted her the night before and they managed to squeeze me in the day I called!) and they told me she was positive for fleas & feline herpesvirus and gave me medicine to take home and treat her with. I’m sure she’ll make a full recovery and I have them to thank for that!”

“Looks like I found my new vet! I’ve had bad experiences in the past with other vets simply just ordering up a bunch of tests to get the bill high and not seeming to care about my concerns with my cat. The team here though was excellent! Dr. Ballou was awesome! He seemed to genuinely care about my concerns and my pet and interested in seeing what is going on and how to manage it, took the time to explain everything and how it all works and why they wanna do this test and prescribe that medication. Reasonably priced as well. Thank you to Dr. Ballou and the rest of the team here for taking care of my Cinderella. I’ll definitely be back!”

“We recently used this facility for cat boarding. We loved the location and the set up for the cats. The little "condos" are situated in a room with storefront windows where it is bright and appealing. Everyone is friendly and we can be confident the cat is getting the attention we would lavish on her at home. We took her toys, blanket and favorite food and snacks and we were happy to trust her care to them while we were away!”

“We have been going to Quince Orchard since 2005 with generations of guinea pigs, and they are excellent. Dr. Felrice is very knowledgeable about exotic animals and even in the rare cases where he doesn’t know something, he is very honest and then does the research to figure it out. Although I moved out of the state, when my guinea pig Lola had been suffering from painful urination for weeks despite many trips to another vet, x-rays, and pain medicine (no stones!), I decided to drive all the way back home to take her to Quince Orchard. Dr. Felrice was able to tell what was wrong with her right away and was able to flush out her urethra, hospitalize her overnight, order medicine to prevent sludge forming in her bladder, and send me education materials about calcium consumption and absorption in her diet— all for a very generous cost compared to what I had paid in NY. Now, Lola is better than ever, popcorning and running laps around her cage like a whole new guinea pig :) Dr. Felrice has performed numerous successful surgeries for our guinea pigs in the past, and is always able to provide other plans of action if we are not comfortable with the first option. I can recall another time a few years ago where Dr. Larry Giebel took home our sick guinea pig Cookie to personally watch and care for her overnight. She was old and did not make it through the night, and he was so kind in calling to update us first thing in the morning as well as writing us a handwritten letter with his condolences. The vets, techs, and front desk at Quince Orchard are extremely caring, knowledgeable, and helpful in taking care of our guinea pigs. We have never left without feeling impressed about the quality of care they provide, and recommend them to everyone we know with pets. Added a photo of Lola the other day after I picked her up, happier and more lively than she had been in weeks!”

“Dr. Mead is awesome. After my senior Doberman broke both feet consecutively, and was in casts and on rest restriction for four months, I was worried he would never return to his usual activities. His recovery after the casts came off was plagued with all sorts of minor to moderate issues and injuries. However, thanks to Dr. Mead’s knowledge and creativity, we came up with an effective rehabilitation and maintenance plan for Ruger that has allowed him to return to his pre-injury activities. He is still actively competing—and winning— in sport competitions well into his 10th year. Dr. Mead’s care and guidance have made a huge impact on the quality of life of my very mentally and physically active dog. She listened to what my goals and concerns were and treated my dog as the individual he is. Her caring and thoughtful “bedside” manner is a credit to her and certainly a reason she was able to get Ruger back to superstar status. Can’t thank you enough Dr. Mead! **2022 UPDATE** Still seeing Dr. Mead. She's still awesome. Ruger broke his toe a third time at the end of 2021 but he's back in action and still competing, in good part because Dr. Mead keeps him in peak physical form. Unlike the regular vet, he loves his visits with Dr. Mead, which is an added perk.”

They all told me they couldn’t see him for over a month. I called Nansemond and they were able to fit us in right away.
