“Despite the factory tour being closed, the backstage pass film is a good way to find out more about the history and operations at this site. It's no substitute for a real tour though! There was a Q&A session at the end which was a good opportunity to ask questions, although some of the answers given weren't very informative. The museum and viewing deck are good, so this is a good way to spend a few hours just half an hour outside Seattle.”

Grayslake Heritage Center

Address: 164 Hawley St, Grayslake, IL 60030, USA

Museum

“This place is really cool. The staff is really nice and willing to share knowledge about their museum and the city. There are 2 levels on the main level and they also have an annex. In the main building they have all sorts of artifacts from almost the beginning of the city. Really worth the time to come here. In the annex they have an original fire truck from the 50s that still works and they use it in the parades, also few other vehicles and machinery. The best part it is free to come here, but I would leave a donation though”

The Journey Dome

Address: 3300 T W King Rd E, Southlake, TX 76092, USA

Museum

“Children 4 and under are free otherwise its $18 per person. The show lasts about 45 mins. Free parking. And port-a-potty stalls if you need to go. Overall - really cool experience. Good and bad, here we go. From the outside, the dome doesn't look very big. But on the inside, it felt like the screen stretched because of how much you can see. I believe his name was Jonah, he was our host. Super friendly guy. We were at the 3 PM showing which was the last show of the day, so he said he was a lot more relaxed and not in a rush for us. There are Beanie bags, folding chairs, and also these rocking bed-like seats. Those were really cool! You can lean back and get a full-on view experience from top to bottom as simply as leaning forward and back. I would recommend finding one of those to sit on, but there's a limited amount so try to get there early. I was maybe... the 12th person that entered and we got the last 2 but that didn't mean there was 12 rocking seats. I think there was eight. OK so why the missing 5th star? First, I don't know if it was where i was seated but it was absolutely freezing cold! Like uncomfortably cold. My husband was wearing a thermal long sleeve and he said he was cold too. So bring a cover or dress warm. Also bad : The male voice over that they used, for what felt like half the show, was so deep and low that you really couldn't hear the story telling, like at all. :( And, I thought it was just me, but it turned out my husband confessed that he couldn't hear or understand the deep voice either. The music was so loud that it overshadowed the voice. So it just felt like we were looking at a video while trying to Make out any little part we can understand. Otherwise, I do think this was a cool experience. I love that kids can participate, but I don't think it's appropriate for the little, little ones. One kid was running around during the show (this dome doesn't have a lot of running space) and I noticed when the show ended, parents were carrying out their sleeping children lol. NAP TIME!”

Homestead National Historical Park, Heritage Center

Address: 24405 SW 75 Rd, Beatrice, NE 68310, USA

“What an great place to be on the Fourth of July weekend. Entrance to everything in this spacious national park is free. Lots of exhibits inside and out and well presented. The story of homesteading and its history relationship to surrounding area very well told. There are two main buildings we saw both had gift shops. The staff greets you and will guide you through park and exhibits they are so helpful. There are two gift shops and staff greets you and is very willing to answer questions. You can even take time and research on computer your own family homesteader history. The walk around building nice exercise and very scenic farmland and nature. A most peaceful place where you can just relax hear the wind and birds and see what homesteaders saw. Lots of old farm equipment and other home and farm artifacts. We both really enjoyed our visit and it wasn't a far drive from our home state of Minnesota.”

McLemore House

Address: 446 11th Ave N, Franklin, TN 37064, USA

Museum

“The McLemore house is a true gem in the city of Franklin. We often hear of slavery but the narrative of how formerly enslaved people created homes and lives after enslavement are rarely discussed. This tour will give you a new perspective on history you may not be aware of. This house was home to four generations until it became an historic sight. Include this historic home on your next visit to Franklin. You will be glad you did.”

Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum

Address: 1 Jacobsen Wy, Carson City, NV 89701, USA

Museum

“For some reason I was under the impression this school was still open when in fact only one building is open, a musuem/research/culture center; while other buildings have been re-purposed for state agencies and the remaining structures have been shuttered and left to ruin. The grounds are very well kept, in sharp contrast to some of the dilapidated buildings. There is an audio walking tour that visitors can complete by calling the posted phone # and selecting the appropriate location. There was a gentleman working at the culture center who was a former student of the school! He was very knowledgeable and full of first hand accounts of what the school was like for the students. Very interesting place to stop and get a perspective on how the natives were treated.”

“This place is definitely worth the drive and admission! Before getting to the museum and all the building, you drive through a safari and see all kinds of animals! It’s scenery is so pretty and calming. There’s a museum to get some knowledge soaked up and to see all the cool stuff they have there. They also have a lot of hiking trails to hike on. The trails were very well kept and suitable for my toddler to hike too! Our favorite part had to be the petting zoo and the playground! I’ve never seen a decent sized playground as cool as this one. They’re even shaded areas to sit and relax as the kids play. We’ll definitely be going back soon!”

Hale Farm & Village

Address: 2686 Oak Hill Rd, Bath, OH 44210, USA

Museum Park

“Had a great visit during the Civil War Reenactment weekend. We have been to the farm four times now and just love the experience, but this last visit was the icing on the cake. The entire village was an encampment and we got to enjoy it with family. Good times, and will definitely go back again. Only some minor issues, we were not able to find where they were giving the "historical" talks, and we missed them. The demonstrations put on by both Hale Farms and the Civil War encampment were just amazing. A full review and video is available on our blog site.”

Holocaust Museum LA

Address: 100 The Grove Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90036, USA

Museum Library

“The Holocaust Museum is quite sombering however, it is informative and detailed. The traffic flow within the Museum wasn't bad. Parking is a challenge, and you're needing to reserve your spot before they allow you in. Security is higher in this Museum than most throughout SoCal. It costs $1 to use some earbuds and walk around with a recording about each specific section. Highly recommend that. The details on the recording explain extensively on what each photo and item is as you're walking through. The Museum begins with how and why the Jews were targeted and the steps taken to hold them accountable. There are individual stories to be heard, and graphic photos to assist in understanding the full picture. Staff is nice and allow us to walk through on our own. There wasn't any sort of problem during my experience through the Museum.”
