The Teaching Museum South

Address: 689 North Ave, Hapeville, GA 30354, USA

Museum

“I went to school there (called North Avenue Elementary). My mother yanked me out of a parochial school when that school did not have enough qualified teachers for my grade. My first exposure to a school library happened at North Avenue Elementary when our 5th grade class toured the small library and I was told that I could check out a book to read at home. That got me reading Freddy the Pig series that exposed me to cultural and morality issues within the story line. Got to experience bullying from Butch and Jimmy and to this day do not like bullies. But my 6th and 7th grade teachers (Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Schneider) put on a learning path that has served me well all my life. They are long gone but their positive impact on me lives on.”

“What a wonderful local museum rich with local, state, national, and global history prices, an entire restored room of Victorian Era home, the old library with books you can actually sit and read incredible, I didn't have time but I plan a trip just to read. Wonderful knowledgeable guides. I was there in mid July of 2021 was a wedding on the same day there was one woman who was an intern or in school for artifact restoration something or other and the other was an art teacher, wonderful spirited people. Very knowledgeable and engaging both of them. You can see and learn some history of the Inland empire as well. Highly recommend , invaluable jewel of cherry Valley, definitely go spend money in the local region at the plethora of local farms vineyards and shops afterwards. La is cool and all but I love the Ie especially out east before the desert towns in this area.”

“The Huntington Garden is a gorgeous escape from the city. You could spend an entire day here, and still not see the entire grounds. The Rose Garden is stunning. The succulent section is truly spectacular. But my favorite are the Asian gardens. A perfect way to spend a day. A Los Angeles Treasure. So... worth the visit! Plenty of gardens to walk through including. Tea garden, Japanese and Chinese garden, rose garden (favorite), herb garden, and desert garden etc. Bring really good walking shoes and a hat! I saw many people just reading or doing yoga on the lawn because it’s the most peaceful place ever! Also, not too crowded because they have a max capacity.”

“One of the true treasure spots in the metro. The care put in place simply for the LOVE of world and local history is apparent. The store has a slow rotation of products but enough sales to keep people buying. There is a large selection of magazines, baseball cards, tools, dolls, cookie jars, pins, home goods. There is a really fun upstairs that has amazing set ups to gaze at, with various areas that resemble a Victorian everyday home. They have a Victorian style food store on display as well. Super fun time. The basement has a interesting selection of toys from 50's-70's, and some items from the 80's and 90's. Worth a trip if your in the Twin Cities, and worth a trip even if your passing through. Safe neighborhood and if you have questions the owners are always willing to help.”

Ca' d'Zan

Address: 5401 Bay Shore Rd, Sarasota, FL 34243, USA

Museum

“Take a walk through opulent history. Ca' d'Zan (house of John) has been restored to its former glory. One can picture the A-list crowd dancing the tango to live music or dining at the magnificent table laden with imported bone china, crystal, and sterling which could be stored in the hallway vault. Around the corner is the bar room with leaded glass windows where guests probably found a fully stocked bar of top shelf liquor even during prohibition. Although the second floor is not open to the public there are pictures in a room at the exit to the immense patio overlooking Sarasota Bay.”
