The guys who run it are good people with good vibes, and the bbq is not only the best tasting, but the best value in Deland. Their house salsas are really good - both green and red are served with chips as a compliment to your meal. We ordered a lot of beef dishes this visit and all dishes came out cooked perfectly! The meat was so tender and savory and paired well with their yummy bean soup and rice. If you are into mixology, they have awesome cocktails. Had seafood chimichangas, which were stuffed with shrimp and scallops.....date had vallarta special.... one thing didn't like was the machine they have that for the bill.... the server tells you the total and you add the tip right there then they print out a copy and send you on your way.... he likes to look over the bill, discuss the food, service, whatever, then add the tip, which he prefers to give cash..... if he is forced to rush through it on that machine, he will usually tip less and add it to the card instead of leaving cash.... it does feel a little awkward, but not a deal breaker.... less than $60 for beverages, entrees, and dessert for two, which was a good deal for the meal we had.... menu is not overpriced!”

Can't forget the calamari appetizer that got the party started. The calamari was really well seasoned and crispy. The lasagna was definitely the star player; robust meat sauce, cheesy, and generously portioned. The pizzas were large with lots of great toppings. The crust was a little more bready than I normally like, but that's just a personal preference. No disappointments here... Everything was super delicious! (We didn't have room for dessert, but those looked awesome too! Cannoli, anyone? ) Dont be deceived by the exterior. This is definitely a "don't judge a book by its cover" kind of place. Walking in, you are immediately met with a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere. Spacious dining room and a great bar. Live music was featured on the night we were there. We left stuffed, happy, and feeling like we made a treasured discovery that we hope to visit again and again. I completely and absolutely recommend Island Italian!”

Initially we went inside to stock up on snacks, but discovered the kitchen and cute 'lil dining area in the back and we just had to stop and sit a spell! The cook, Madison, turned on the tv for us and we watched Gunsmoke while she prepared our food. And the food? Par excellence! We complimented Madison on her skills, but she wouldn't hear any of it.
