(November 11, 2018, 1:15 pm)A place I had to visit when on my way to Chelmsford as this had been where my father had grown up and worked with my grandfather as a child repairing the foundations. I arrived at dusk on a beautiful summer evening to find the church quiet and practically empty. A perfect place for peaceful contemplation, yet with a comforting, friendly atmosphere.

(September 11, 2018, 1:44 pm)Said to be the last remaining wooden church of the early Saxon period, with nave walls of 9th Century split tree trunks, this church not only looks special, but also has a very different atmosphere to a stone church. It's fascinating to see so many features familiar from the later stone-built churches are also in this wooded one - even the leper's squint in the north wall of the nave. A 12th Century crusader's grave is just outside the south wall of the nave. A bonus is that this church is down a country lane in good condition and has limited gravel parking and a specific area for disabled parking.

(March 22, 2018, 12:42 pm)Stunning example of very early Saxon church with wooden walls. Grave of 12th century Crusader as well. Freshly made preserves and jams inside. Beautiful little church. A definite must see. Pews with doors, never seen before.
